Hong Kong City Guide by Lisa and Patricia Lam of Taboocha

Hong Kong City Guide by Lisa and Patricia Lam of Taboocha

By Zarah Cheng

As most great ideas do, Taboocha was conceived as a solution to a problem. The tale of Taboocha finds its origins in 2014. The company was started by sisters Lisa and Patricia, the former having suffered from poor digestion for most of her life. When her friend taught her how to make kombucha, the siblings began experimenting with the fabled beverage and over time, it became their “go-to home remedy for health fix-ups,” as they themselves explain.

Known for having a plethora of health benefits such as supporting gut health through probiotics, providing antioxidants to reduce inflammation and cell damage, and also assisting liver function and detoxification, kombucha is a wonder drink that has unsurprisingly become an accessible natural restorative for those who are curious about alternatives to traditional forms of medicinal cures.

Named after their tricolored mongrel puppy, Taboo—who has now become the mascot cutie of the label—Lisa and Patricia’s home-brew project developed into a brand dedicated to providing natural, functional and flavorful beverages to the Hong Kong community.

Taboocha has since become known for delectable flavors such as “Bloom” Jasmine Green Tea, “Geung” Goji Berry Ginger Green Tea, “Roasted Oolong” Iron Goddess Tea, and Calamansi Green Tea. Engrained into the brand’s identity is also a quirky personality that comes through flavors such as “Beautiful Rangers” Lychee Rose Black Tea, “Happy Potion” Passion Fruit Turmeric Green Tea, and “Tom Yum Don’t Don’t” which is a Tom Yum Pineapple Green Tea (yum!).
